Plant Key Requirements:
  • Production of renewable biogas and fertiliser
  • Treatment of industrial wastewater generated from food processing operations
Full-Scale Plant Statistics:
  1. Waste Source: Various food processing waste and wastewater streams
  2. Technology: Anaerobic digestion, nitrogen removal using Annamox bacteria along with phosphate removal using magnesium hydroxide precipitation
  3. Gas energy output capacity: 6MW
“ Energie des Mascareignes is designed to receive food processing waste streams from the surrounding Riche Terre Industria in Mauritius and convert the organics contained in these streams into a methane-rich biogas by means of the biological conversion. Further to this Nitrogen and Phosphorous minerals will be removed from the waste streams to allow for safe discharge into the existing treatment networks and production of valuable fertilisers. This project is another building block in our journey to create value from waste and to do our part in helping create a sustainable future for the island of Mauritius ”
